Golden Layers Programme Overview
This course invites young artists to embark on a creative journey that begins with the simple beauty of a single fruit and unfolds into a world of landscapes, florals, and expressive masterpieces. Each stage builds gently on the last, guiding beginners through the fundamentals of light, colour, and composition while nurturing their confidence and curiosity.

As they progress, students will explore the techniques of great masters like Caravaggio, Monet, and Van Gogh, discovering how artists across time have seen and interpreted the world in their own unique ways. By the end, every child will not only have developed their technical skills but will also have gained a deeper appreciation for the many perspectives that shape the art world. This is more than a painting class, it’s an invitation to see the world through an artist’s eyes.
  • We’ll begin by painting a single piece of fruit, learning how to capture shadows, reflected light, complementary colours, and highlights. We’ll take inspiration from artists like Caravaggio and Cézanne to bring our fruit to life.
  • Next, we’ll move into landscapes, exploring how to create dramatic skies and show perspective. You’ll discover how colours change with distance, inspired by the works of Turner, Monet, and Cézanne.
  • Then we’ll turn our attention to painting leaves and flowers, focusing on scale and composition. Georgia O’Keeffe’s beautiful floral paintings will guide our creativity here.
  • After that, we’ll dive into the world of Vincent van Gogh, learning how to use colour expressively to convey emotion. You’ll experiment with bold brushstrokes to create movement and energy in your work.
  • We’ll then move on to a project of your choice, where you can paint a favourite animal or object. This is your chance to express yourself, practise observation, play with colour palettes, and think about composition. We’ll look to Yayoi Kusama, Louis Wain, and David Hockney for inspiration.
